Tom Dienhart isn’t a believer in Nebraska football just yet

The Nebraska football team is still in for some struggles in 2018 according to Tom Dienhart.

Don’t count Tom Dienhart as a fan of the Nebraska football team just yet. The Big Ten Network analyst recently released his very early projections for the Big Ten West.

In those projections, Dienhart said he believes the Huskers are going to finish a dismal fifth in the division. Yes, that means he believes the Cornhuskers are even going to finish behind Purdue.

In the end, Dienhart says Nebraska is only going to finish ahead of Minnesota and Illinois. Here’s the kicker, he may not be far off.

In his predictions, he makes it very clear he thinks Scott Frost was the right hire. The problem is that he just doesn’t think they’re going to be able to turn it around in one year.

“Does the personnel on hand fit what the new staff wants to do on both sides of the ball? Job No. 1: Get better in the trenches on offense and defense.” He wrote on the BTN website.

The good news is that there is personnel, like Stanley Morgan who are going to fit any offense. He announced he was coming back to the Huskers last night.

Tanner Lee, who was definitely not a fit for the spread offense, has left. Nick Gates apparently doesn’t think he’s fit for the system either.

Nick Gates’ departure is also part of the problem when it comes to getting better up front. While he didn’t have a great 2017, the last thing Frost and company likely wanted to do was have to fill a spot of a potential starter.

Frost and company seem to know they don’t yet have the players they need. That’s one of the reasons they’re going after so many junior college players.

The Huskers have already had running back Greg Bell and wide receiver Jaron Woodyard sign early. Frost and company are also looking to get a ton of defensive players.

That might just be the magic bullet next year. If the influx of talent can come through, it’s entirely possible Frost can get the ship turned around quickly.

If he can’t get the talent to gel quickly, then Tom Dienhart’s prediction for Nebraska football in 2018 might be right on the nose.
