New Nebraska football coaches already getting the Huskers on the radar of talented targets.

On Saturday night, the Nebraska football coaching staff offered safety John Huggins. On Sunday morning, Huggins said the Huskers were probably at the top of his list.

It’s been a whirlwind couple of days for the Cornhuskers as well as the Florida defensive back. On Thursday, Huggins was a commit to Florida State. When Jimbo Fisher announced he was leaving Tallahassee, Huggins announced he was opening his recruitment.

The offer from Nebraska was one of the first signs that the new coaching staff was getting to work right away. Huggins had been a player that was quite interested in UCF.

When Frost and company officially took their show on the road, the 6-2 200-pound safety decided he might be interested in joining them in Lincoln. Huggins talked to the Orlando Sentinel on Sunday and laid out who the top schools were on his list.

"“Yeah, I would say they’re my top school right now. Top three right now would probably be Louisville, Nebraska, Florida State and I’m open to others, but Nebraska is pretty high up there.”"

Huggins was supposed to be hosting defensive coordinator Erik Chinander during the day on Sunday. The safety also said he was told defensive backs coach Travis Fisher is joining Frost in Lincoln.

That last tidbit is interesting only because it puts another puzzle piece in place. Frost hasn’t officially announced his staff yet. It appears there are still a few openings.

There had been some who thought former Huskers’ defensive backs coach Donte Williams might be brought back. It appears he’s going to be looking for a job elsewhere.

In the meantime, Scott Frost and the rest of the Nebraska football staff is working overtime. Those who were worried about the recruiting class have to feel heartened with the way this staff has hit the ground running.
