Nebraska football fans have to be a bit concerned that Chip Kelly might head to UCLA.

While most talk still has Chip Kelly headed to Florida, Nebraska football fans started to sweat a bit on Sunday night. The reason for anxiety came shortly after UCLA announced it had fired head coach Jim Mora.

Coming into the season, Mora appeared to be safe and secure in his position and at the helm of a Bruins team that was among the best in the business. Much like the Huskers’ season, 2017 didn’t go exactly as expected in LA and Mora was held ultimately responsible.

UCLA becomes the third Power 5 job to have a head coaching opening late in the year and almost immediately after Mora was fired, talk that the school might be looking at Kelly surfaced. The problem with the former Oregon Ducks returning to the Pac 12 is obvious from the Cornhuskers’ perspective.

Nebraska fans who wanted Scott Frost to come back to Lincoln were feeling confident that would be his landing spot if the Gators grabbed Kelly. Talk that the Huskers and Frost had already agreed to a deal and the announcement was just a formality had people plenty excited as well.

The problem now is that Frost has denied he has agreed to coach the Huskers. There are also new rumors that Florida AD is a big Frost fan.

That’s too many wrinkles in a Sunday evening for most people in Lincoln to feel very confident they’re going to get their man when all the smoke clears. As has been the case for the last few days, people are left waiting to see just when the first domino is going to fall.
