Nebraska Cornhuskers: Five players to watch vs Michigan State
Tommy Armstrong
1. Tommy Armstrong – QB: Tommy Armstrong missed the loss to Purdue with a foot injury. Without Armstrong in the lineup, the Huskers scored 45 points. Ryker Fyfe even threw four touchdown passes. However, Fyfe also had five turnovers in the game. The Huskers were doomed by four interceptions in the 10 point loss.
Armstrong is facing a Michigan State defense, giving up 241 passing yards per game. Opponents have completed 60 percent of their passes against the Spartans, so Armstrong should have his opportunities for a big day. However, he can’t be loose with the ball.
The Spartans force 1.8 turnovers per game, and they’ll look to force Armstrong into some bad situations. If the Huskers are forced into a high scoring game, problems could arise for the entire offense.
Coming into the game, Armstrong is completing 53.5 percent of his passes. He also has 16 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. Still, Armstrong’s ability to run the football might be the key to an upset victory.
He has 257 rushing yards this season. However, Armstrong’s foot injury could limit his mobility. We should know how Armstrong is moving early on. If he is limited, the Huskers will have to win the game with a stellar passing performance.
