4. Vincent Valentine

When you grow at the rate that Valentine did during the 2013 season, you’ve earned the right to jump an upperclassman. By the time Husker football chalked up a win against Georgia, Valentine had proven he was ready for the spotlight.

He’s perhaps only one of two defensive linemen who have a guaranteed place at the table heading into fall camp (the other being Randy Gregory, of course). His stat line from last season isn’t sensational: 21 tackles (12 solo), 5 tackles for loss and one sack.

What was impressive was how his confidence grew over the course of 13 games and six starts. Valentine might be a nice guy off the field, but he’s not going to show Big Ten offensive coordinators any love.
