Former Nebraska football star Quincy Enunwa’s New York Jets are struggling through a 2-5 season.

Despite those struggles, the wide receiver is having a breakout year that would likely be getting quite a bit more attention if the team was doing better. After a rookie year that saw him haul down just 22 passes, Enunwa has already pulled in 32 catches for 409 yards and two touchdowns.

Those numbers are more than just an improvement over his rookie year stats. The 32 receptions leads the team, despite Pro-Bowler Brandon Marshall being on the team. Marshall comes in a close second with 30 catches on the year.

The two touchdowns also tied Marshall and the injured Eric Decker for the team lead in scores and the 409 yards is second by just 63 yards. While Decker’s injury has likely hurt the Jets’ chances for making a run towards the AFC East title, it has allowed the former Nebraska football star to shine.

Even in games when he isn’t putting up big catches, he’s putting up big plays. The Jets last game, against the Baltimore Ravens was proof of that. While Enunwa caught just two passes, he took one of those receptions for a 69-yard touchdown.

Considering the team won just 24-16, that TD was one that was definitely needed. On the season, the man who has become the go-to receiver is averaging more than 12 yards per catch, bolstered by his 36.5 yards per catch number in this past week’s game.

In just his second season in the league, Quincy Enunwa is starting to look like the beginning of what could be a kind of wide receiver dynasty for Nebraska football. That certainly helps players like Quincy as well as hopefuls like Brandon Reilly and Jordan Westerkamp. It also helps the Nebraska football team bring in ever more talented recruits moving forward.
