Husker Football Tailgate: Week 12 – Bye week recap!

Well, there’s only one game left in the regular season. That seems really weird to say. I’m so glad the Huskers finally have a bye week to try and heal up some of those banged up bodies. Even the reporters were starting to get a little salty. We are going to need all hands on deck to beat up on that team from the other side of the river. Can’t hide the fact I would love to see BIG RED spoil things for the gold and black.

A bye week provides time to reflect too and so that’s what I’m doing. Here are all the Husker tailgate recipes from this season all in one place. Just click on the link and you’re all set.

Week 1 – Cosmo Jello shot was in honor of Cosmo the BYU mascot. That one certainly came back to bite us in the end. The game, not the shot. I do remember that it was Coach Riley’s first time in a Tunnel Walk and he said it was “Awesome.” File that under things Husker fans have known for a long time.

Week 2 – Husker Hammer jello shot as we hammered the Southern Alabama Jaguars 48-9. Also on the menu was the Black and Blue Cheeseburger.

Week 3 – Husker Handy Bread for the appetizers and a Hurricane was on the menu as Big Red headed down south to Miami. Helluva game! We were THAT close!

Week 4 – Southern Miss was in the stadium for Homecoming week. A morning game tailgate included Pumpkin Muffins and Big Red Breakfast Sliders. I remember those sliders well. I prefer them with Ham and they are an ideal treat to use all those holiday leftovers for tailgating after Thanksgiving. We will be serving up some roasted Hawkeye in Lincoln! (shameless plug against Iowa)

Week 5 – Big Ten play for the Cornhuskers opened on the road against Illinois. Homegating drink recipe was the FROZEN RILEY. Little did I know how frosty things were going to get for coach in the next few weeks. Pilgrim Corn salad was the side dish.

Week 6 – It was a heartbreaker loss against Wisconsin, but we didn’t get blown out (23-21)! I created a Pesky Badger jello shot with brandy and apple cider and other thing. Good tailgating usually means good friends. That week they were from Wausau, Wisconsin and brought in a great cheese platter! (Thanks Gundersons!)

Week 7 – Up north to Minnesota for a little redemption for Big Red! The menu included Smoked Mac N Cheese — as in we smoked the Gophers winning 48-25!

Week 8 – Another early morning game against the Wildcats and Purple Punch jello shots were on the menu. The Peanut Butter Chews dessert was very popular at the tailgate as well. I am going to be making these for the holiday season as well. I mean who doesn’t peanut butter and marshmallows?

Week 9 – Ryker Fyfe was the Husker QB for this one against Purdue. Husker gameday quiche was the way to start the day, but after all those interceptions, Apple Pucker Cider jello shots weren’t the only sour taste left in your mouth.

Week 10 – The victory against Sparty was certainly a reason to celebrate! Woolly Mammoth Burgers were on the grill and Margarita jello shots were as smooth as Brandon Reilly’s game winning catch!

Week 11 – We were still enjoying the Cornhusker’s sweet victory and what better way to keep it up than with Peanut Butter Brownies and some spicy Pepperoni Bites appetizers? In case you were wondering, my Husker tailgate friends reported that the Rutgers tailgaters were friendly. Thanks to those peeps that sent photos!

I also want to send a shout out to the best tailgate buddies a gal could have – Scott & Mary, Justin & Lynn, Curt, Mark & Pat, Justin & Abbie, and Mike & Jayne! Couldn’t have nearly the fun without y’all!

Enjoy the bye week. Don’t believe the crap about the “allegations” and get ready to cheer on the Huskers next Friday. The game is at 2:30 on ABC which means awesome tailgating. PS – Dear Mother Nature, please be hospitable. Feel free to send us your tailgate photos so that we can share them on our Twitter @TheHuskerCorner. Be good fans to the other team even if they aren’t and wear RED, be LOUD and send the seniors out with a win!! GO BIG RED!!!
