While the UCLA Bruins are just 2-5 on the season, it’s clear that the Nebraska football coaching staff is more than a little nervous that people will assume that this weekend is going to be an easy win for the Huskers. There’s also plenty of nerves since a win on Saturday afternoon would mean the first bowl game for NU since 2016.

On Thursday, various coaches and players addressed the media for the last time before Saturday’s contest. Among them were defensive leader Ty Robinson who followed quarterback Dylan Raiola.

Robinson offered up his explanation as to how the Nebraska football defense is looking at the approaching contest. As well as how badly his teammates want to get this win.

Nebraska football Blackshirt talks UCLA Bruins game

Robinson started out by saying that he thinks the defense took a big step forward againt Ohio State. Especially as a bounce back from Indiana.

“I think the standard was set even higher on Saturday. What’s great is that everyone now gets to see that standard. Everyone knows what it takes during the week and in practice to get to that type of preparation for the game. The offensive coaches, this is the first time they came to our coaches saying ‘those defensive guys on the scout team were flying around today and making plays and being aggressive and getting them better and better.’ The same thing, our scout offense has done a great job all year of getting us ready. I think that’s why we’ve been pretty dominant on defense. We just have to continue to exceed that standard every practice and every day.”

Robinson also talked about how he sees the UCLA Bruins. He seems to know that despite their record, they aren’t a team to take lightly.

“The Pac-12 is good football. When I would break it down in high school, they were more of a passing league. Their offense, they have good running backs, good tight ends, they have a good front. Their QBs are both mobile and can throw the ball, as well, they have great vision. I’m excited to go more in depth. This morning we got to learn some of their tendencies and start to go into depth about them. That’s what today will be about, to learn a little bit more.”

It’s clear that Robinson feels he and his teammates are ready for Saturday. Here’s hoping he’s right and the Nebraska football team finally does something it hasn’t done in almost a decade.
