While things have been pretty stable around the Nebraska Football team this spring, the same can’t be said for some of its chief rivals. In fact, one of the Huskers’ rivals jut had a rather big “stunner” of a loss from an offense that only got better as the season went on.

The Northwestern Wildcats are coming off a surprise of a bowl season under then interim-head coach David Braun. They started the year seemingly one of the worst teams in the sport after losing head coach Pat Fitzgerald just ahead of Big Ten Media days at the end of the summer.

However, after struggling out the gate, including a loss to the Nebraska Football team, Northwestern rolled off four straight win, including a bowl victory against the Utah Utes. One of the contributors in turning the team around was quarterback Brendan Sullivan, who entered the portal on Tuesday morning.

To say that those around the Nebraska Football rival were surprised was an understatement. Louie Vaccher a man who works for the Northwestern Rivals site, a man who would certainly have heard rumblings about Sullivan’s departure if there were rumblings was certainly taken aback.

“This qualifies as a stunner,” Vaccher wrote on X. “Northwestern’s presumed starter at QB has entered the portal.”

Over eight games last year, Sullivan completed 63 percent of his passes for 714 yards, 6 touchdowns and just 2 INTs. He also did some damage with his legs running for another 160 yards and 2 touchdowns.

While Sullivan did play well, Ben Bryant returned from injury later in the year and played very well himself. In fact, he was the quarterback who spurred on the Wildcats’ four game winning streak to end the season.

Now, Northwestern won’t be able to turn to Sullivan should they need to in 2024. That is at least a small boon for the Nebraska Football team as they look to make a return to a bowl game for the first time in nearly a decade.
