One of the most snakebit kids to ever come through the Nebraska football program might finally be getting his chance to really show what he can do. At least until that ugly ole snake bites him again.

Chubba Purdy  has been cleared to start throwing in practice, according to Pete Thamel. Purdy, who is now with the Nevada Wolfpack, missed time in his new team’s fall camp and didn’t play in their first game, a matchup with SMU where they almost pulled off the upset.

The former Nebraska football player has been dealing with a shoulder issue. However, according to Thamel he’ll be available for next weekend’s game against Georgia State and will be “full go” by the September 14 Nevada game against a team he knows pretty well in Minnesota.

The question now is whether or not being “full go” will see him get him into the game. While the Pack did lose their first game, Brendon Lewis had a solid if not spectacular game at quarterback.

In Nevada’s Week 0 game, Lewis completed 14–of-26 passes for 132 yards, 2 TDs and no interceptions. He also ran the ball for 77 yards.

Nevada will have the benefit of the next two games to see if they might want to find a way to get Purdy into the game, or into the starting role.

The former Husker ended up in Nevada after originally transferring to San Jose State after Dylan Raiola signed with NU. However, he saw his head coach leave to take the Arizona job and decided to go to a different Mountain West team.

Purdy spent a few weeks as the starting quarterback for the Nebraska football team after battling back from injury in 2023. He started the final game of the season for the Huskers and looked like he might lead them to a bowl game, but had a devastating interception late in the contest against Iowa that allowed the Hawkeyes to kick a game winning field goal.
