The Nebraska football is going into the game against Purdue with several players at least a little banged up. While offensive lineman Turner Corcoran and kicker Tristan Alvano are definitely out for Saturday morning’s Kegs and Eggs game against the Boilermakers, there are a couple of other players who won’t know their status until they warm up and work out.

Speaking to to the media on Thursday afternoon, Rhule detailed the players who are out and the players who will step in like backup kicker John Hohl. He also shared details about the players they’re hoping can contribute once the game rolls around.

Among the updates, Gunnar Gottula will start at left tackle for the Nebraska football team Saturday and cornerback Tommi Hill will be a game-time decision. Those were two of the personnel updates from Rhule as he met with reporters Thursday for the final time before the team's trip to West Lafayette, Indiana.

An injury to Corcoran during the first quarter of NU’s overtime loss to Illinois last week led to the move up by Gottula. The redshirt freshman finished the game in Corcoran's place and got some rave reviews from the coaching staff after the contest.

Hill had to leave the Illinois game in the first half as well because of severe heel pain from an inflammation of the plantar fascia. He was relieved by USC transfer Ceyair Wright who also drew praise from Rhule.

"If you get to the game and if [Hill] can go, great," Rhule said. "If he can't, then Ceyair proved that he's a starting-level corner in the Big Ten."

Rhule said there were some other players that may or may not be able to go on Saturday, though he didn’t name any others specifically.

"We're going to do some things full speed tomorrow and see where some of those guys are … a lot of game-time decisions."

That’s not the best news considering the Nebraska football team is playing its first away game of the season as they look to bounce back from their first loss of the 2024 campaign.
