The Nebraska basketball team might be about to officially hit the most difficult stretch of its 2023-24 season. It would be that hard even if it didn’t appear that the Huskers were fighting to stay on the NCAA Tournament bubble.

The Huskers will need to try and bounce back after losing a game they were hoping to send a message with. They started to send that message, opening Saturday’s game against Maryland with a 12-2 lead. Then they fell apart and the game got out of hand quickly.

Now, the Huskers come into the last days of January and the first days of February knowing that they’re going to need to show they can win against some of the better teams in the Big Ten. And they are indeed going to fight against a pair of the best teams in the conference.

Nebraska basketball vs the Wisconsin Badgers

On the one hand, the Huskers have already tried their best to beat the Badgers, and they were handled quite easily by Wisconsin. On the other hand, that matchup had been in Madison.

The loss to Maryland made it clear that the Cornhuskers are simply not as good on the road as they are at home. In fact, they’re downright bad on the road and they’re quite good at home. Unfortunately, Wisconsin continues to be very good period.

Wisconsin wins: 70-65

Nebraska basketball vs the Illinois Fighting Illini

Not only are the Huskers bad on the road, but they don’t tend to put up much of a fight. Meanwhile, the Illini are not only one of the best teams in the Big Ten, but they’re one of the best teams in the country.

It would be a pretty massive shock if the Nebraska basketball team managed to put up a fight, let alone actually get a win.

Illinois wins: 89-65
