No longer in-state, Nebraska Cornhuskers still a frontrunner for 4-star PF
The Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team is starting to gear up for the 2024-25 season. But Fred Hoiberg and his crew are also continuing to build for the future. That includes still being hot on the trail of a 4-star power forward who was, until recently an in-state prospect.
A’Mare Bynum moved from Omaha Benson to the Link Academy in Branson, Missouri but that doesn’t mean he is against returning to where he grew up to try and help the Huskers’ program continue building. In fact, it’s felt that NU is one of the front runners for the 6-foot-8, 210 pound prospect.
Nebraska Cornhuskers are still in the running for A’mare Bynum
Last week, Bynum confirmed to Robin Washut of On3 that he plans on coming back to Lincoln this fall. He’s got an official visit scheduled for the Nebraska Cornhuskers in early September.
That visit will be a big one both for Bynum and the Nebraska program. His visit from September 6 to September 8 encompasses the Nebraska football game against Colorado. He’s almost certainly going to see one heck of an electric atmosphere.
They’ll need to build that atmosphere in order to influence Bynum. He’s got quite a few power programs after him. Especially a couple that are quite close to his home state.
The Huskers are facing off against Iowa and Iowa State among others. The Cyclones could be the team to beat when the dust setltes considering A’mare’s father Omar played for ISU for three seasons between 2001 and 2003.
On the other hand, back in December, the NU target talked about what Fred Hoiberg does and how much he likes the gameplan.
“I like how they play with spacing. They talks to me about how I can really play well and how they see me fit in the program very well. Like bringing the ball up, being the main ball dominant. I would definitely say (our relationship) is great. They came to my game on Friday and they told me I had a great game.”
It will definitely be a while before this recruiting battle is over, but the Nebraska Cornhuskers basketball team have their foot in the door.
