In the first week of competition Nebraska is leading the rest of the conference in the Abbott/Big Ten Blood Drive competition. NU is on top of the leaderboard with 46-and-counting blood donations logged.

While the point of this competition is to make sure that people are engaging in something that can help the community, the prize is very real and it’s very worthwhile for the schools competing.

There is $1 Million Dollars on the line for Nebraska and every other team in the Big Ten conference that’s competing in the contest. The money is earmarked not for NIL for the athletes but rather to advance student or community health.

Students, alumni and fans can donate blood on behalf of Nebraska at blood centers across the country; donation totals will be tracked live at BigTen.Org/Abbott throughout the contest.

Nebraska leading the Big Ten in blood drive

It’s not just the schools that benefit from this blood drive either and it’s clear the the people who put this together understand how much incentives work for this kind of thing. Abbott announced when they launched the contest last week that anyone giving blood will receive a free one-month subscription to the B1G+ streaming service.

Those who give blood are also entered to win two tickets Big Ten Football Championship Game that also includes an all-expenses paid trip. So winners don’t have to worry about finding a way to get there.

This sort of thing is exactly the kind that Nebraska fans take a great deal of pride in. There’s no reason to think they won’t be in first place when the winner is announced at the Big Ten Championship game. The contest officially runs from last week until December 6.
