Nebraska football rival coach leans into Scott Frost-like moment

UCLA head coach Deshaun Foster had the worst Big Ten Media Days opening since Nebraska Football's Scott Frost, but he's handling it better.

Until very recently, the only time Nebraska football fans thought about UCLA, it was because they were glad Tony White wasn’t hired by the new Big Ten rival. The the team’s new head coach made an appearance at Big Ten Media Days.

You can’t blame Deshaun Foster. He’s a rookie head coach. He might not have been prepared for the absolute circus that was Big Ten Media Days. Whatever the reason, he didn’t appear all that well prepared. And in doing so, he came off a bit “Scott Frost-like” during his opening statement.

Whether he simply forgot his opening, or felt he didn’t need one, his tongue tied approach, where he told people that UCLA and USC are located in LA … and that was it, was oddly reminiscent for some Nebraska football fans of the year Scott Frost took to the podium and announced he had no opening statement. At all.

There is of course one big difference between how Frost handled his issues and how Foster handled his. Frost seemed angry and petty and petulant. Foster is leaning into his and making it a joke. And a good one to boot.

Showing up on his first day of fall practice, Foster sported a new t-shirt.

The shirt is simple and great because of that simplicity. It simply says “we’re in LA.”

The Bruins’ head coach is clearly making sure people know that he can poke fun at himself. It makes me think that outside of when Nebraska football plays UCLA, I might have to root for them.
