As NFL training camps open and start kicking into gear, one former Nebraska footbal star is hoping this time is the charm. Adrian Martinez tried to catch on with an NFL team last year and for a while, looked like he had a chance.

After entering the preseason with the Detroit Lions, Martinez had some decent games, but was eventually cut and briefly looked like his career was over. Then he found new life in the UFL where he posted an MVP season in 2024. Now it’s back to the NFL with a different team.

Former Nebraska football star giving the NFL another go

Earlier this week, the No Block No Rock Podcast reported that Martinez is officially trying to catch on with a new team. He worked out for the New York Jets, who might feel as though they need a couple of extra quarterbacks in camp, just in case.

However, there is no guarantee he’s actually going to get an invite to the Jets camp. It was just a workout and as far as we can tell at this point, wasn’t added to the roster.

The Jets workout comes after he also worked out for the Seattle Seahawks. The former Nebraska Cornhuskers star is clearly doing everything he can to show that he should at least get an NFL shot.

Adrian Martinez still looking for stardom post Nebraska football

Thanks to the way that Scott Frost used Adrian, it’s likely he’s never going to accomplish in the NFL what he might have been able to do with the right coaching and development. It obviously would have been a massive longshot, but one has to wonder what might have been with competent coaches.

Plenty of third string quarterbacks in the NFL didn’t have the kind of talent Martinez showed off from time to time, especially in his freshman season.

For now, we’ll just have to wait and hope that the former Nebraska football star can find an NFL team to give him a shot.
