Should a pair of former Nebraska football players want to go pro, they no longer have to worry about it being the “NFL or bust.” That’s because both Omar Brown and Isaiah Stalbird have their ticket to the UFL.

The spring professional football league held its draft for next season on Wednesday morning, and both former Huskers got the call. Interestingly enough, they both got the call in the same round.

Brown was selected in the 10th and final round by the D.C. Defenders. Stalbird was taken just two picks later by the Michigan Panthers. Both former Nebraska football players were taken in the very last round of the UFL draft

It is of course hard to figure out just why a player goes in the first round compared to the 10th round. Talent and pro potential certainly goes into it, but there’s almost certainly a level of expectation as to whether or not the selected player will report to their UFL team.

It seems as those both those factors are on display in the 10th round. Brown at least has a chance to catch on with an NFL scout team. From there, he might even see some action. He seems less likely to entertain the UFL than going for National Football League dreams.

Stalbird, on the other hand, left the Huskers and finished his college days with the South Dakota State Jackrabbits.

Last year, the linebacker record 80 tackles, 3 sacks and 3 tackles for loss for the FCS National Champion. Stalbird might still get a chance at the NFL, but he could also use the draft pick from the UFL to show what he can do.

No matter what they choose, the former Nebraska football players will be interesting to watch as they make their pro choices.
