As the Nebraska football kickoff countdown continues, we’re just 92 days away from the Huskers game against UTEP. That means today’s focus on a player features number 92, Sua Lefotu. The defensive lineman is one who didn’t see a ton of playing time in his freshman season in 2023, but there were some rumblings that he could see more action in 2024.

Lefotu played in three games while keeping his redshirt season intact in 2023. He made his debut by playing on the defensive line at Colorado. He certainly had an impact there as he recovered a fumble that set up a Nebraska football touchdown drive. A few weeks later, he recorded his first 2 career tackles against eventual national champion Michigan. He also saw action against Iowa in the Huskers’ season finale.

In total, the 6-foot-4, 300-pound lineman saw a total of 25 snaps in those three games. He finished 2023 with a PFF rating of 50.1 overall, which certainly isn’t bad for a true freshman who got sporadic playing time.

If you're looking for reasons to be confident about Lefotu's potential in 2024, his teammates' feedback from spring practice is a good place to start. Their positive remarks about his performance and potential should reassure fans about his future impact on the team.

Ty Robinson, who is looking like quite the leader for the Huskers so far this year, definitely sung the praises of the big defensive lineman after the spring game.

"I've seen huge jumps. Especially from Sua. He's had a tremendous spring from the beginning to now. You only saw him get better," Robinson told the assembled media.

"He's finally got an edge to him,” Robinson continued. “It's been awesome to see him kind of become the player he is. He's a big kid who is able to hold his own. But sometimes when you're young, it's kind of not scary, but you kind of get nervous and anxious going in there against some older guys or some bigger O-linemen."

All of that sounds like good news for the Nebraska football team as Sua Lefotu heads into his second season on Tony White’s defense.
