On Thursday, the Nebraska football team received the exciting news about the kickoff times for several of its games in the 2024 season. In a thrilling twist, the Huskers also learned that this year’s Black Friday clash with the Iowa Hawkeyes will be elevated to a prime time event. This announcement marks a significant moment, as it will be the first time in 14 years that the Heroes Trophy game will be played under the lights, adding an extra layer of excitement for the fans.
The Big Ten announced that the Huskers and Hawkeyes will play at 6:30 p.m. on NBC. The game has almost always been an 11 a.m. kickoff, but has had a few 2:30 p.m. or 3 p.m. kickoff times sprinkled in over the years.
The Nebraska football team also found out they and Iowa won’t have the Black Friday game by themselves in the Big Ten anymore. The conference announced at the same time as the Heroes Game release that Minnesota at Wisconsin will take the 11 am kick time.
The change isn’t just for this year either. The Big Ten will have two Black Friday games annually: 11 a.m. on CBS and 6:30 p.m. on NBC. These moves follow the NFL also trying to take advantage of Black Friday more as well as it will start having a game of its own in the afternoon. This year, it’s Kansas City vs Las Vegas.

Nebraska’s opener with UTEP will be aired on FOX at 2:30 pm. That means three of the Huskers’ first four games will be aired on network television.
Other than NU’s homecoming trip to Purdue on Oct. 5, all four of the Nebraksa football team’s other homecoming games they are involved in have flex kickoff times, including a potential 10 pm kickoff possibility at USC on Nov. 16.
Earlier this month, we found out that the Huskers will have two Friday night games, with the contest that will almost certainly be the 400th consecutive sellout against Illinois will also be on Friday, Sept. 13.
