Nebraska football could be seeing familiar bowl opponent in latest projections
The Nebraska football team is now just two wins away from becoming bowl-eligible and most people in the college sports world believe they’ll make that. In fact, some think they’ll make it before they play their 8th game in Columbus.
So who should Husker fans be preparing to face off against? It turns out that the latest ESPN projections have a ton of different teams NU could do battle with this winter. Obviously, the opponent changes based on what bowl the Huskers find themselves.
There is one bowl game that might be most interesting than the rest to Nebraska football fans. One ESPN analyst believes the Huskers could face off against Ole Miss.
It’s worth noting that to some degree, you could credit the Rebels for a part in the downfall of the Cornhuskers as NU lost to Ole Miss back in the 2002 Independence Bowl. That loss led to the Huskers posting a 7-7 record, the first time in decades that Nebraska didn’t post a winning record. Things have only gotten worse from there.
Nebraska football has some interesting bowl projections on deck
While Mark Schlabach had the Huskers going to the Reliaquest Bowl to take on Ole Miss, Kyle Bonagura sees them headed to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl to play the Duke Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils are surprisingly 5-0 this season, but they have played a soft schedule so far. Duel-threat quarterback Maalik Murphy would provide the Huskers' defense with some interesting challenges.
Both games would certainly be interesting for a Nebraska football team that hasn’t been in a bowl since 2016.
