Nebraska Cornhuskers slide continues in meltdown vs Creighton

The Nebraska Cornhuskers couldn't get Creighton out when it mattered the most and lost for a 5th time in their last six outings.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team have been in this situation far too often over the last week and some change. The Huskers had a lead late in the game, the offense stops doing anything at all, and the bullpen implodes.

It's actually been the story of Will Bolt's squad for the last couple of years. The lack of anyone who can consistently get outs in the 8th and 9th innings has killed them over and over and over.

And the Nebraska Cornhuskers bullpen has played a rather large part in Bolt's team losing 5 of its last 6. They've lost two in a row to Creighton this season, (and lost 10 of the last 12 against the in-state rival) and a season that looked so bright just about 10 days ago continues to look as though it's spiraling into another year where there's going to be a question whether they're even an at-large team.

Perhaps the only thing that is more concerning than a bullpen that can't get anyone out, is an offense that has become rather inconsistent. On Tuesday night, the Huskers managed just 4 hits before their little 9th inning rally that had the go-ahead run at the plate in their 6-4 loss.

While you'd like to spread the blame around, it was once again the bullpen blowing up that was the biggest culprit in the loss.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers baseball team lead 3-1 after 7 innings. Then 3-2 going into the 9th. Kyle Perry was ineffective in yet again in what might just be a sign of overuse. He was lifted with one out and the bases loaded.

Rans Sanders relieved Perry, who promptly allowed a grand slam to put the Huskers up 6-3.

The loss dropped the Nebraska Cornhuskers to 23-11 on the season. A record that looked quite a bit better when it was 22-6. Next up for Will Bolt's squad is a visit by the Maryland Terapins.
