The Nebraska Cornhuskers volleyball redemption tour following an upset loss to SMU earlier this season rolled on Sunday night. This time, the team in the way of another blowout win was the USC Trojans.

It was the first time the two teams met as conference rivals. It was, however, not the first time that John Cook’s crew made short work of a team that entered the evening ranked in the Top 25.

Unlike their Friday night match against the UCLA Bruins, the Nebraska started off dominating the match and closed it out in straight sets. It appears in the process they learned not to let their guard down until the final whistle blows.

In their B1G opener, the Bruins actually managed to make things a bit interesting after losing the first two sets. UCLA won the third set and gave NU all it could handle in the fourth. In the process, it was the first set the Huskers had lost in over a month.

Nebraska Cornhuskers sweep away USC

In taking a quick 14-8 lead, Nebraska had kills on six of its first eight attempts, including some high-level stuff in transitioning from defense to offense for kills.

Later in the set, Nebraska had an 8-0 run. Late in the set Nebraska wasn’t able to score in one rotation, before finishing off the 25-18 win.

In the second set Murray put on a show, putting down nine kills in that set alone on just 15 attempts.

USC had 13 serving errors – several came on off those high risk, high reward jump serve attempts – and just one ace.

When the smoke cleared the Nebraska Cornhuskers won 25-18, 25-22, 25-16, improved to 12-1 on the season and likely solidified their standing as the No. 2 team in the country.
