The Nebraska Basketball team might be about to find out if Fred Hoiberg and company did enough to lure arguably their top transfer portal target to Lincoln. However, a reading of the tea leaves has some people thinking he’s almost certainly going somewhere else.

The Nebraska Basketball team has been deeply invested in landing former Omaha Mavericks’ guard Frankie Fidler since he first entered the transfer portal. At first, it felt as though the race to get Fidler was a two-team race between the Huskers and the Creighton Bluejays. Eventually the guard, who averaged over 20 points a game this season, named a final four.

The Nebraska Basketball team is now facing off against Creighton, Michigan State, and Wisconsin. And the race to land him is nearing an end. 1620’s Gary Sharp reported on Wednesday morning that Fidler will announce his new school next Monday. He will in fact do it on Sharp’s radio show Sharp and Handley, at 8 am on Monday, April 15.

It appears that Fidler picked this particular format for his announcement because Sharp is the long-time voice of the Omaha Mavericks basketball team. It appears the guard is wanting to go with someone he’s built a relationship with during his time in college.

Nebraska Basketball could be set to lose out on big target

So should Nebraska Cornhuskers fans start getting ready for the Frankie Fidler parade in downtown Lincoln? The mood around those who have followed this particular saga closely enough are decidedly pessimistic.

Most of that pessimism is based on the fact that Fidler was teammates with Wisconsin Badgers guard Chuckie Hepburn in high school. It appears that most think the two are looking to reunite at the college level.

For the Nebraska Basketball program, Frankie Fidler should be considered a “must get” in order to replace the loss Keisei Tominaga, but also because of the loss of Jamarques Lawrence and Eli Rice. Here’s hoping the Huskers are going stay on a roll after landing Andrew Morgan.
