More proof arrives of Nebraska football's Blue Blood status

Another discussion of whether Nebraska football is a Blue Blood started up this week, and it missed some very key points.

It’s that time of year again. Its the time of year where the debate starts again about whether Nebraska football is a Blue Blood program

Because the Huskers have had a truly terrible decade, and haven’t been all that good for quite a while now, there are those who are once again claiming they aren’t. Andy Staples of On3 is the latest to claim NU is on the outside looking in.

However, Staples is only one voice in a sea of voices on where Nebraska football sits. And on Thursday, yet more proof that the Cornhuskers are indeed a Blue Blood program surfaced. And it really feels as though this set of proof should close the book.

More proof offered that Nebraska football is a true Blue Blood program

Data analyst Andrew Weatherman put out the latest proof that the Huskers are still historically one of the best programs in college football. One of the most honored. And one of the Blue Bloods.

Weatherman’s data is simple. He put out a list that shows all the college football teams that have been in the AP Poll at least 150 times since its inception in 1936. And as it turns out, despite the collapse in the last two decades, there are only three teams that have been in the poll more.

Only Ohio State, Alabama and Oklahoma have been there more. That means the Huskers are above teams like Notre Dame, Michigan, Texas and USC. Teams that Staples claims are already Blue Bloods.

That’s not the only piece of evidence either. Another stathead, Kyle Umlang put forth his qualifications and data and showed that there are only eight Blue Bloods in the sport. Those eight teams are Ohio State, Notre Dame, Alabama, USC, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan and the Nebraska football team.
