Once a Husker, always a Husker. That’s the popular refrain from Nebraska football fans, who are a dedicated bunch to their current team and the men who played in the past.

Adrian Martinez understands this saying. He understands it better than most as an ex-Cornhusker who has seen and felt the love from a fanbase that’s followed him long after his NU career was over.

The Scott Frost-era quarterback is getting ready to play for a UFL championship on Sunday afternoon. At least we hope he’s getting ready to play. And before the game, he talked about what the Cornhuskers fanbase has meant to him since he came to Lincoln and after he left.

Nebraska football star talks about Husker fans’ love

"I think it speaks more to the people of Nebraska than it does any one person, any one player” Martinez said during his pre-UFL Championship game press conference. “Their support is special. And I've definitely felt that throughout my career, even when I was at Kansas State, I still felt that support.”

“That's partly why I wanna move back there,” he added. “I do love the place and I feel that support and I think it's really genuine. And shoot, I'll be out there at the CWS in a week or so with them. So I appreciate the support and it's part of what makes that place so special.”

Martinez has had a massive season for the Birmingham Stallions, by leading the league in rushing, while also dominating the UFL through the air. The postseason has been an interesting one for the former Husker as he was benched last week after struggling a bit.

He spent a good portion of the season splitting time with former USC quarterback Matt Corral and that could be the plan again for the Stallions in the UFL Championship. Even if it is, it’s clear Adrian Martinez knows that Nebraska football fans will be cheering him on to the victory.
