The Nebraska football game against Colorado featured a rivalry that goes back decades. However, now that it’s over for the foreseeable future, some Buffaloes players are coming out of the woodwork to praise the Huskers. Travis Hunter was most prominently blown away by the Memorial Stadium atmosphere.
Hunter recently recorded the latest edition of his podcast and while he was keen on moving on from the debacle in Lincoln, he did have some nice things to say about his time in town.
“That environment was Top Ten,” Hunter said at one point in the episode. “Yeah, I got to give it to them. That little light show in the fourth quarter, that was cool too.” But it wasn’t just the drone show that impressed Hunter about going up against the Nebraska football team in Lincoln.
He added that the fans made things extremely difficult.
Nebraska football fans made themselves known to Travis Hunter
“Their fans was loud, on third down, when you break then huddle, when you get in the huddle. I couldn’t even think to myself how loud it was.”
Hunter certainly wasn’t the only person who was incredibly impressed with the way that Memorial Stadium was rocking in the first half of the game. The university went out of its way to make sure the atmosphere was raucous.
That included honoring both Frank Solich and the 1994 National Championship team. New AD Troy Dannen also revived the tradition of releasing red balloons whenever the Huskers scored their first touchdown.
All of this was geared at making it extremely hard for Colorado to come to Lincoln and keep their winning streak against NU going. Thanks to the Cornhuskers blowing the doors off CU early and holding them off even when the offense started to struggle, Nebraska stunned the Buffaloes.
Travis Hunter deserves credit for saying that now that the smoke has cleared. Once an enemy of the Nebraska football team and its fans, the animous can now be replaced by mutual respect. Unfortunately, he’s still playing football in Boulder and there are plenty of other teams lined up to take their shot.
