Despite the fact that Dylan Raiola finally had a few freshman moments on Friday against Illinois, the Nebraska football quarterback is still impressing everyone who watches him. He’s still a guy who people believe can lead the Huskers to the promised land.

His numbers show that the people who still believe he’s one of the best freshmen in the country are correct. His poise on the field has them convinced as well. And one analyst came out and said so shortly after the Huskers lost to Illinois.

“I still don't think there is a better player in college football to build a program around than Dylan Raiola,” The Athletic’s Ari Wasserman wrote on Twitter. “It's a rough night for Nebraska, but I'm certain really good days are right around the corner.”

Those kinds of comments are just one reason that even with the Nebraska football team dropping another one score game, another overtime loss, another crumble in crunch time, there’s belief the Huskers will be better this year and beyond.

Nebraska football’s star QB gets big praise

The Cornhuskers are in a unique situation with Raiola and company. It’s been a long time since they’ve had a high profile player getting that kind of praise. You’d have to go back to the Bo Pelini days to and someone like Taylor Martinez.

Of course, Martinez was a one trick pony. He could run. He couldn’t pass.

While Raiola isn’t Lamar Jackson in the pocket, he can run when he needs. And oh boy can he pass.

It’s not just him either. The Nebraska football team has several young players that are making their mark in 2024. He’s hoping they keep doing it
