2024 Week 5 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction
The Nebraska football team probably doesn't have a chance of making the College Football Playoffs. After all, any outside chance they had of making likely involved them getting to their game against Ohio State undefeated. Then a close loss there, followed by a lot of wins to close out the season was the only real path.
The loss to Illinois derailed the easiest path. They're likely going to need to pull off some upsets to get there at this rate. And with Wisconsin not doing all that well, it likely means winning out until they get to USC later in the season.
So who is the College Football Playoffs from the Big Ten. Quite a few teams. Ohio State, Oregon, and Penn State all seem poised to get in. That's one less spot than the SEC is getting with Alabama, Georgia, Missouri and Texas.
Rounding things out is the darkest of darkhorses in BYU. A loss by Utah this past weekend has opened a path for the Cougars to shock everyone and win the conference.
2024 Week 5 12-team College Football Playoffs prediction
Rank | Team | Why Are They Here | Previous Rank |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Texas | SEC Champ | 1 |
2 | Ohio State | Big Ten Champ | 2 |
3 | Miami | ACC Champ | 3 |
4 | BYU | Big 12 Champ | 4 |
5 | Alabama | At Large | 7 |
6 | Georgia | At Large | 5 |
7 | Missouri | At Large | 8 |
8 | Penn State | At Large | 9 |
9 | Oregon | At Large | NR |
10 | Clemson | At Large | NR |
11 | UNLV | Mountain West Champ | NR |
12 | Notre Dame | At Large | NR |
There was a time when UNLV looked dead in the water. They lost their quarterback because he didn't get the NIL money he wanted. And then they won in a blowout. Clemson also gets a second bid from the ACC, which was unheard of just a few weeks back. But Miami and Clemson look like they're set for good seasons.
Finally, there's Notre Dame. They also looked like their season was over not that long ago. Now it appears they squeak in. Perhaps that's good news for Nebraska football, if it can figure some things out between now and the game in Columbus.
