10 best NBA careers by Nebraska basketball alums
Stu Lantz makes the top of this list thanks to having the most success putting the ball in the basket among any former Nebraska basketball players who eventually went on to play in the NBA. He’s also someone most Nebrasketball fans might not have heard of, unless you’re a diehard member of the fanbase.
How long ago did Lantz play? He started his NBA career with the San Diego Rockets. The best season for the guard was his third, when he averaged 20 points and 5 rebounds a game in the 1970-71 season.
Lantz also played for the Detroit Pistons (1972-1974) and New Orleans Jazz (1974) prior to being traded to the Lakers in the middle of 1974. Unfortunately, this is also where his career ended as he suffered a back injury he couldn’t play through.
As a member of the Nebraska basketball team, he was a two-time All-Big Eight selection and averaged nearly 17 points a game in his Husker career. After his playing days were over, he turned to broadcasting and has been a member of the Los Angeles Lakers’ broadcast team for decades.
