The Nebraska basketball team just wrapped up a rough 1-3 stretch over its last four games, with the roughest loss of the bunch yet. On Tuesday night, the Huskers rallied from down 22 to Purdue to take the lead in overtime. Still, they needed one final possession to try and come back again, down 78-77 with 4.1 seconds to go.
Unfortunately, as Jamarques Lawrence took the inbounds and turned to motor up court with the ball, he slipped on what appeared to be a wet spot on the court and turned it over. Purdue got the ball and was fouled, hitting two free throws to ice the 80-77 victory.
As is usually the case with a game that was this wild down to the end, some Nebraska fans might not have gotten a close look at just what happened and how Lawrence turned it over. Those who might have been tracking using websites, rather than watching the game, might have even thought it was an important unforced error.
Nebraska had the ball down by 1 with :03 left in overtime. Inbounds pass goes to Jamarques Lawrence, who slips in front of the Purdue bench.

New video shows how close Nebraska was to coming back against Purdue
However, a video posted by Kevin Sjuts shows a closer look at Lawrence as he was starting to go down before he even had the ball. It was later reported that the spot he hit was likely missed by the cleanup crew, as that was where Purdue had huddled during the previous timeout. The spot was clearly slick as the video also shows Sam Hoiberg slipping as he goes over to help Lawrence up.
The loss means that Nebraska is now 21-3 on the season and 10-3 in the Big Ten. With Michigan standing two full games ahead of them with seven games to go, it's unlikely the Huskers will secure a regular-season conference title. However, their fight against Purdue and the fact that two of their last three losses were by a combined five points illustrate that the Huskers can play with anyone. The Big Ten tournament could be quite interesting assuming they can finish the regular season strong.
