Over the weekend, Nebraska wrestler AJ Ferrari was arrested and booked in Lincoln for an outstanding warrant from Texas. Ferrari was charged as a fugitive from justice and was set to be extradited to Texas for the warrant.

Ferrari only joined the Nebraska Cornhuskers this season, after a tumultuous and scandal-filled journey through other collegiate programs.

In 2023, Ferrari reportedly threw a punch at an Iowa Hawkeye wrestler and, despite having already enrolled at the University, he was never officially added to the roster because of the incident.

While with the Oklahoma State Cowboys, he was charged in a case of felony sexual battery that was later dismissed, but still led to him being removed from OSU's wrestling team.

Nebraska has yet to make a decision on AJ Ferrari

"The Nebraska Athletic Department is aware of the arrest of AJ Ferrari on Friday night related to an outstanding warrant in Texas," the Cornhusker wrestling team told Husker Max. "We are awaiting more information from legal authorities involved and have no additional comment at this time."

Even with all of the drama and scandal following Ferrari's career over the last few years, the Cornhuskers were more than happy to invite the former Team USA wrestler into their program.

Nebraska wasn't Ferrari's first choice for his future, even after already having to cross Oklahoma State and Iowa off his list. Just last spring, he committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels but quickly returned to the transfer portal when the University denied him admission.

When he joined the Cornhuskers, head coach Mark Manning said, "We’re excited about AJ joining our family here at Nebraska. This decision was a collaborative effort from my team, staff, and our administration. AJ’s wrestling accomplishments speak to the dedication, work ethic, and competitive spirit that aligns with our program. We believe AJ adds tremendous value to our team’s fight and passion for our sport."

Ferrari was arrested following a personal and team victory over the Purdue Boilermakers, opening the Cornhuskers' Big Ten schedule. Next, likely without Ferrari in tow, Nebraska will take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Friday, Jan. 16.
