It’s a statement about how good the Nebraska volleyball team has been over the last few years; yet another sweep and an 11-0 start to the season are expected. After 25-10, 25-17, and 25-14 victories over the Missouri Tigers, the Huskers now prepare for Big Ten play while wondering whether Teraya Sigler will be available to return to the court anytime soon.
On that note, there’s head coach Dani Busboom Kelly’s take on the situation, and what Nebraska fans’ hopefully-lying eyes were telling them toward the end of the match against the SEC squad.
After Sigler went down, seemingly slipping and needing help off the court, concerns about one of Nebraska’s most improved players set in almost immediately. The outside hitter came back to the court wearing street clothes. More concerning than her being out of uniform (especially because the Huskers had the match well in hand) was that she wore a walking boot on her right leg, which she hadn’t been able to put much weight on when she injured it.
For her part, Busboom Kelly doesn’t seem all that concerned. Asked about how severe Sigler’s injury was, the head coach said she was "not overly worried" and believed her player was “ok.” She did, however, offer a less rosy comment, saying she couldn’t say for sure because she’d seen some “weird” injuries during her volleyball playing and coaching career.

For now, the Huskers will have to wait and see. It’s possible Busboom Kelly couldn’t get a full report on the situation as she left the court and made her way to the media room. There’s also a potential waiting period to see what swelling does or doesn’t occur and whether she might need more tests on Thursday morning after Sigler wakes up.
The entire situation originally wasn’t even supposed to be possible on Wednesday night. Nebraska and Missouri were making up a match originally scheduled for September 6. That showdown was part of a college volleyball showcase put on at Wrigley Field.
However, the Big Ten eventually canceled the match at the outdoor venue because humidity made the court so wet that officials enlisted players to help try to dry it off with towels and fans. Even with those efforts, and with a dance-off between the two teams as they waited to see if a match could be played, player safety ironically delayed it until Wednesday night.
Even playing indoors in Lincoln, Sigler couldn’t avoid the cursed atmosphere that followed this non-conference showdown all the way from Chicago.
Nebraska gets no time at all to rest and regroup as it opens Big Ten play against Rutgers on Friday and then Ohio State on Saturday. Right now, it feels like even if Sigler is “ok,” she won’t be available for at least the match against the Scarlet Knights.
Her absence will certainly be felt if she can't go this weekend at all, considering she came into the night with a .310 hitting percentage and played arguably the best match of her Nebraska volleyball career last Sunday against FGCU.
