Friday night might have been another “ho hum” sweep over an unranked opponent for the Nebraska volleyball team, but it’s safe to say that before and after the match, their attention and worry returned to Andi Jackson.
Jackson, a senior, was seen in street clothes during Friday’s pregame at Wintrust Arena. She didn’t participate in the 25-19, 25-13, 25-15 victory over the DePaul Blue Demons, and there’s at least some worry about when she’ll be back. While Jackson is expected to be available for Sunday’s match against Missouri at Wrigley Field, lower-leg injuries can always be a bit unpredictable. They could, at the very least, continue to annoy her for a while if she plays on it.
Jackson’s injury occurred with Nebraska leading 15-10 in the third set against South Dakota State. Freshman Keoni Williams replaced her. Jackson went straight into the locker room and wasn’t on Nebraska’s bench for the remainder of the match.
After that match, there wasn’t any update as far as what the prognosis was for Jackson, but before the DePaul match, she was spotted not only not in uniform but also with her left ankle taped.

It’s a no-brainer why Jackson would like to be back for the match against Missouri since it’s taking place at Wrigley Field. At the same time, if the middle blocker sits out Sunday’s match, it would mean she’d rested the ankle for over a week before Nebraska looks for her to return to the court.
Making sure she’s rested and ready for her next match against a ranked team in #21 Baylor could take center stage over getting her back as soon as possible. After all, without Jackson making it onto the court, Nebraska was never really in any danger on Friday night.
The hope now is that, with Nebraska head coach Dani Busboom Kelly saying the injury wasn’t serious, Friday’s match was the “being careful” day when Jackson could have played if she was needed, but the call was made to rest her. With the potential that this could be Andi Jackson’s last season in Lincoln, she’d obviously like to play as much as humanly possible.
