With spring practice officially here, it’s also officially time to start making predictions for the college football world as to how each team will do. When it comes to CBS Sports' Tom Fornelli, he believes the Nebraska football team is primed for a breakout season.
In a recent article, Fornelli picked every Big Ten team's win total for 2025 and believes the Huskers are in a pretty good spot with some more incremental improvements on deck. According to the analyst, the Huskers are picked to win eight games. That would be a two game improvement over the 2024 season and if NU can then win their bowl game, a very respectably 9 win season is in store.
Nebraska football earns breakout prediction with favorable Big Ten slate
Fornell looked at the projected over/under for every team with Nebraska’s being set at 7.5 so in this case, he picked the over, bu just barely. He picked the Cornhuskers to beat Cincinnati, Akron, Houston Christian, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, USC, Iowa. There are some impressive wins in that group, especially over the Wolverines and Trojans.
The four teams that the Nebraska football team will lose to, according to the analyst are at Maryland, at Minnesota, at UCLA, at Penn State. It’s safe to say that three of those teams are iffy enough that Matt Rhule’s boys could add a few more to the win total if everything goes right.
""Nebraska is another team that could take a serious leap forward if Dylan Raiola rounds out his game and improves. He has the potential to be the best QB in the conference, which goes a long way toward winning games. I don't know if he goes that far in 2025, but I do think the Huskers take advantage of a schedule without Ohio State and Oregon on it.""Tom Fornelli
Considering how bad things were just two years ago, it’s safe to assume that another step forward would be welcomed by Nebraska football fans.
