When Nebraska faces off against Washington on Halloween, the Huskies may not be The Walking Dead, but they could very well be The Walking Wounded.
After just two games of the 2026 season, Jedd Fisch's gang has lost four offensive starts for "significant time." It's not clear just how long some of the players will be out of action, but starting wide receiver Christian Moss is expected to be out for "two to three months." That means Moss, who transferred from Kenesaw State this year after hauling in 45 catches for 689 yards, will definitely miss the Husker game, barring a miraculous recovery from his lower-body injury.
ESPN reported that Moss suffered the injury in Washington's season opener against Washington State. He didn't get any statistics in that game and now may not play at all for the Huskies, depending on how long their season goes.
The Huskies also might be without starting wide receiver Rashid Williams, who is week-to-week with an undisclosed injury, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel. Williams sustained the injury Saturday against Utah State, and Fisch said his potential absence would not be substantial.

That could mean that Williams will be back in time for the Nebraska game, but without knowing what the issue is, it's hard to predict just how long "week-to-week" might be. The wide receiver caught just 5 passes for 54 yards last year but already had 4 catches for 96 yards and a touchdown, signaling he was in for a breakout campaign.
Moss wasn't the only offensive starter who suffered a serious injury in the Huskies' season opener. The team's running back depth has taken a significant hit, as starter Quaid Carr and backup Jayden Limar will both miss extended time
Much like Williams, it's possible that one or both backs could be back in time for the game against Nebraska, as it's still over a month away. If they're not, it's clear their absences are felt.
In Washington's 16-14 win over Utah State, the Huskies' leading rusher was quarterback Demond Williams with 56 yards. The leading rushers among running backs were Trey Cooley and Brian Bonner Jr., who tied with just 22 yards on 7 and 9 carries, respectively.
The numerous injuries could be a major reason Washington's offense has significantly underachieved, despite Williams's return after he tried to enter the Transfer Portal, but was threatened with a lawsuit by his school.
Williams completed nearly 70% of his passes for 3,065 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. He also ran for over 600 yards and another six scores. So far this year, he's thrown for just 1 touchdown in Washington's two games while running for another 117 yards and 1 score.
Demond Williams Jr. was almost certainly a top weapon that Nebraska has focused on for the October 31 face-off. Should the Walking Wounded not return for that game, he could be their only weapon.
