Nebraska football still very much in play for top OT tackle taking in SEC powers

Jackson Cantwell would be a massive get for the Nebraska football team and they at least have a shot.

As the second Nebraska football season of the Matt Rhule era winds to an end, the staff is trying to win its sixth game of the year and get a bowl game for the first time since 2016. They are also continuing to try and build for the future with an all out blitz on the recruiting front.

That includes the continued pursuit of one of the best offensive linemen in the entire class. The good news here is that it looks as though he have a legitimate chance of landing said offensive lineman.

The Nebraska football team has long had a relationship with Jackson Cantwell. They’ve long been a front runner, if not the front runner for his services and now, as the season gets closer to an and and Cantwell gets closer to making a final decision on where he will play his college football, the Huskers are trying to surge into the lead, despite the fact that the Alabama Crimson Tide are pushing hard as well.

Nebraska football making big push for top OT target

The 6-foot-7, 300-pound monster is rated the nation's No. 1 overall prospect, the No. 1 offensive tackle and is arguably the nation's best shot put and discus thrower as well. That last tidbit could be another reason NU is standing out. The Huskers just happen to have a very good track and field program.

So far, the Nixa, Missouri bluechip recruit has trimmed his list to 14 - Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas A&M and USC.

The Huskers are also fighting off the Miami Hurricanes, who are hosting Cantwell this weekend.

The 2026 offensive tackle doesn’t have a firm date for a commitment. He could hold off as long as next December. However, the feeling is that he will be pulling the trigger soon. At the very least, he’ll be trimming his list down, and the Nebraska football team looks to be among those who will stay.
