As Matt Rhule promised, Nebraska football has spent a ton of money in the Transfer portal this season. However, with Princewill Umanmielen now in the portal, can the Huskers' head coach find a couple of million in the couch cushions?
Umanmielen is a former Husker who transferred to Ole Miss ahead of the 2025 season. He was very, very good for the rebels, recording 45 tackles, 9 sacks, and 1 interception. Now that he's looking to transfer again, NU seems like an extreme long shot. But it would be great to see if they can bring him back "home."
His decision to leave Ole Miss was a surprise. The former Nebraska star had announced he was coming back to the SEC earlier this month. However, it appears that the prices his agent was hearing was too much to turn down.
Princewill Umanmielen’s market may be too rich for Nebraska’s portal plan
Nebraska is clearly not a favorite to land the rush end, who might be the best player to enter the portal this season. According to Saturday Blitz, there are five schools that stand out.
LSU, Miami, Ohio State, Texas, and Texas Tech are the teams thought to be contenders by Nicholas Rome. The obvious thinking is that they are teams with a ton of resources who will also compete for a playoff spot next season.
The Tigers make the most sense, since Princewill would be joining his former head coach, Lane Kiffin, if he signed with the Bayou Bengals.
Can Nebraska find a way to get a foot in the door? With 16 Transfer Portal additions already, it seems like they've done what they planned to do. But when a player with the talents of Princewill Umanmielen makes himself available, it's worth giving it a go.
