The Nebraska football team continued its Transfer Portal hot streak on Tuesday morning as the Huskers grabbed their 15th commitment of the winter. That's only part of the good news. The addition of Paul Mubenga also means the Huskers have now scored three offensive line commits since the portal opened on January 2.
Mubenga is a heck of a get, and there are plenty of reasons why Cornhuskers fans should be excited about what this means for the program. What stands out the most for the latest addition to Geep Wade's growing position group?
Paul Mubenga has growing to do as he joins a revamped Nebraska offensive line
The most important thing to know about Mubenga is that he hasn't hit his full potential yet. The 6-foot-5, 317-pound guard didn't start playing football until his freshman year of high school.
Originally from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, he came to the United States in 2017. Despite being relatively new to the game, he's shown plenty of growth in a short period of time. Geep Wade will attempt to continue molding the big-bodied lineman into someone who can shove defenses around with ease.
Mubenga could complete Nebraska's starting offensive line
Three offensive line additions is the magic number. In joining Brendan Black at right guard and Tree Babalade at right tackle, Nebraska will hope that the former LSU player can take over the left guard spot.
With Elijah Pritchett returning at left tackle and Justin Evans at center, the Huskers might now have Geep Wade's first starting unit put together. It will be interesting to see if NU continues looking for depth through the portal, or stands pat for 2026 or even on Signing Day next month.
Nebraska keeps the Buford pipeline going even without Dyla or Dayton Raiola
It seems like a small thing, but Paul Mugenga playing his high school ball at Georgia's Buford High could be a big deal. The big offensive lineman hails from the same school as former Husker starting quarterback Dylan Raiola and former commit Dayton.
Buford is one of the best feeder schools for Power 4 programs in the country, and Nebraska would like to keep the door open to going back and getting more players in the near future. With Paul Mubenga, who has two years of eligibility left, they've got an alum who could still be a way in the door.
