2027 Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor has certainly had an eventful day. First, he learned, like the rest of us, that Anthony Colandrea will return as the Huskers' starting quarterback in 2027. Then he took his current team, the Millard South Patriots, into the opening round of the playoffs against Lincoln Standing Bear.

The last time Millard South and Taylor met, it was in a disappointing blowout loss to fellow Power 4 commit Braylen Warren. Warren, committed to Missouri, kept Omaha Westside undefeated with a 41-17 win over the Pats. On Friday night, it appears that Taylor took out his frustrations after his first career 3-interception game in Nebraska by putting up huge numbers on Friday night.

Taylor bounced back with authority after that 3-pick outing in the Patriots’ regular-season finale loss. The Elite 11 MVP went 16-of-18 (88.9%) for 363 yards and four passing touchdowns, while also rushing for 70 yards and another score. As impressive as those numbers were, they're even more impressive considering he left the game early, with the win easily in hand.

His performance led to a blowout win for the Patriots, 56-7. Even with Lincoln Standing Bear starting with the ball, the Patriots scored their first touchdown within two and a half minutes of kickoff. Taylor left the game with six minutes to go in the third quarter, as the Patriots were already up by 49 at that point.

But if there was any doubt after last week, Taylor shattered it with a 43-yard pass to Carter Margheim for the first touchdown. Freshman Sir Chris Swille had his first touchdown of the season off a 17-yard rush.

Standing Bear struggled to build momentum all game, scoring only one touchdown in the first half. Quarterback Chase Loecker couldn’t find his targets and threw 10 incomplete passes.

After halftime, Taylor threw a long pass to Xane Krause for a 75-yard touchdown reception, Taylor’s longest touchdown of the night and his last before leaving the game.

Millard South advances to the next round of the playoffs, while Lincoln Standing Bear finishes the season 5-5.

Earlier in the day, Taylor had people wondering whether he might have a problem with Anthony Colandrea resigning and likely locking in the starting job in 2027. However, before warming up for the Patriots' game, he posted on social media that he was locked in with Nebraska and excited for the future. Before that future starts, he'll work on getting his Millard South squad yet another state title.
