Nebraska football surprise back taking advantage of post portal playing time

The new Nebraska football reality is that guys who didn't play much this season are going to be contributors in the bowl game thanks to the transfer portal.

The Nebraska football team is working har, bringing in new players through the transfer portal but at the same time, the squad is working with the players still around to get ready for the Pinstripe Bowl against Boston College.

Because of the many, many departures, there are some players who are stepping up and seeing more playing time. Chief among those players are the guys looking to get carries in the bowl game now that Dante Dowdell is in the transfer portal.

Certainly Emmett Johnson is going to be able to show that he should be the man for 2025. Rahmir Johnson will also get to make the most out of his final game with the Nebraska football team. But according to new offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, Kwinten Ives is also catching some eyeballs during the leadup to the team’s December 28 showdown.

Nebraska football could see surprise contributor in Kwinten Ives

Holgorsen has now settled into his role as the guy in charge of the offense. And there is one player that has settled in as one of the dudes who has impressed the new OC.

During this Thursday press conference, Holgorsen named several players who have stood out. The former West Virginia and Houston head coach said that Ives had “nine spectacular practices,” in bowl prep.

Since it appears that the running back will be third on the depth chart behind Johnson & Johnson (oh how I wish we’d had more time with that nickname) he stands to get several reps in whatever offense Holgorsen has planned.

It looks like Ives will have the most extensive playing time of his Nebraska football career. Heading into the Pinstripe Bowl, the redshirt freshman had 5 carries for 5 yards. The most he’s had in one game came in the win over UTEP where he had 3 carries for 4 yards.
