Nebraska football on verge of shocking recruiting upset of SEC power
For the last few months, it felt as though Nebraska football was largely out of the fight for talented 2025 EDGE prospect Dawson Merritt. After all, once a prospect commits to a school like Alabama, it’s hard to pry them away.
However, the Huskers might have been down, but they might not have been out of it. At least not yet. About a week ago rumblings started that pointed to the possibility that the race was still on, at the very least. Today, some top recruiting analysts believe NU has slid into the pole position and could steal one away from the Crimson Tide.
Both On3’s Chad Simmons and Steve Wiltfong have logged predictions for the Nebraska football team to eventually land the commitment of the Blue Valley, Kansas 4-star prospect. That’s even bigger news considering that signing day is next month and potential flips this late in the cycle have a better chance fo sticking.
Nebraska football on verge of shocking upset for Dawson Meritt
While the steal would be surprising because it’s from Alabama, it is worth pointing out that the Huskers have long had a special place in his heart. When he committed to the Crimson Tide this summer, it was thought to be very close and he almost committed to the Cornhuskers instead.
Since that commitment, Merritt was at Nebraska in September for an unofficial visit, his first trip since his official visit in April. There’s talk that he could come to Lincoln for another visit this month. That would almost certainly be while the Nebraska football team is playing Wisconsin.
Depending on how this weekend against USC goes, Dawson Merritt could be in town just a few weeks ahead of signing day as the Nebraska football team goes for its first bowl game in eight years. Even if NU already has its six wins, that final home game of the season could be quite the party.
