When Rocco Spindler transferred from Notre Dame to the Nebraska football program, he talked a big game about how much talent he thought the Huskers had compared to the National Title Game runners-up. It surprised many that he didn't think there was really all that much of a gap. On Thursday, the former Fighting Irish star did it again, once again singing the praises of the players that will line up alongside him this coming season.
Spindler addressed the media from the podium after the Huskers' latest practice and talked about his confidence in the Nebraska offensive line. Along the way, he said he believes the unit could be in for an award when the season comes to an end.
Rocco Spindler praises Nebraska’s talent depth after first fall practices
"We have a lot of talented guys, and we just have to keep sharpening these edges and this room can be the best o-line in the country," one of the newest Nebraska football offensive linemen said. "I think we can win the Joe Moore Award, and I think we will."
Spindler, who spent the past four seasons at Notre Dame, never won the award with the Irish, but was a finalist with his Irish teammates during the 2023 season. That year, Notre Dame ranked in the top 30 in rushing offense, gaining over 185 yards per game on the ground, en route to a 10-win season.
He said that he sees a lot of similarities in the unit in Lincoln as he saw in South Bend.
"We have a lot of talented guys," the Nebraska football guard said. "We just have to keep sharpening a lot of these edges and this group can be the best offensive line in the country."
