While the Nebraska football team is expecting dozens of players to enter the portal, they’re also looking to add their fair share. During signing day, offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen talked about how the Huskers would have at least 20-30 portal players on campus over the next few weeks.
With the portal just opening on Monday, there aren’t a ton of names to know when it comes to who the Cornhuskers are targeting. But there is one name that stands out as he’ll be taking an official visit.
Fresno State linebacker Phoenix Jackson will be in Lincoln on Wednesday. Though Nebraska football fans shouldn’t expect this recruitment to be all that short. There are several schools that are going to garner some official visits from the defender, who had more than 100 tackles during his Bulldog days.

Jackson could be a nice replacement for someone like Stefon Thompson, should the Huskers be able to lure him into the program. They’ll just need to find a way to get him away from Auburn, who he is visiting right after NU and Oklahoma State which he is expected to visited near the end of the month.
The California native is coming off a 2024 season in which he totaled 49 tackles, including seven tackles for loss and four sacks. He also had four pass deflections, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.
Should he choose Nebraska football, there’s a very good chance he could start right away. Whoever the new defensive coordinator ends up being, he’ll have quite the rebuild of the defense ahead of him with tons of departures between graduation and transfers.
