As has been the sad story of the Nebraska football team in the last few years, NFL Cut Down Day on Sunday brought much more heartbreak than heartwarming stories.
While ex-Husker running back Emmett Johnson spent the preseason impressing the Kansas City Chiefs so much that he might have moved up the depth chart to RB2, his former teammate DeShon Singleton wasn't so lucky. At least Singleton isn't alone in getting bad news and looking for new NFL teams on Monday morning.
In fact, Singleton was one of a whopping 17 former Nebraska stars who were given their walking papers this weekend. Add in three players who were cut by their NFL teams earlier in training camp, and the number is an even 20.
According to NTV News reporter and Nebraska insider Randy Silver, the Cut Down Day blood bath came from all over the league and across almost all positions for the ex-Huskers:

One of the things that needs to change for the Nebraska football program before anyone can declare that Matt Rhule and his staff have really turned the corner is that former Huskers need to have more success both in the NFL Draft and in managing to stay on an NFL roster when the time comes to make final cuts ahead of the regular season.
There's been quite a bit of talk that this year's Huskers roster is the most talented that's been in Lincoln under Rhule. How many games they win this year will be the first evaluation point. How many Nebraska players catch on with NFL players and then hang on with them will be another.
