The Nebraska football team knew it was going to be doing quite a bit of business in the transfer portal. However, the Huskers were certainly hoping they’d be able to hang on to former Blackshirt Mikai Gbayor.

Unfortunately, after entering the portal right when it opened, the defender has found himself a new home. Surprisingly enough it doesn’t appear that his entire reason for leaving was following Tony White, considering he just reportedly signed with an old Big 12 (and really an old Big 8) rival.

Gbayor has reportedly landed with the Missouri Tigers, according to Pete Nakos of On3. Gbayor is joining what has become an up and coming Tigers’ team that suffered some setbacks this season, but has positioned itself as a player in the SEC.

Former Nebraska football defender finds his new home via the portal

Gbayor was one of the top linebackers in the portal this cycle, so it’s not surprising it took very little time for him to find a new home. The Irvington, NJ recorded 49 tackles one sack, and 3 passes defended in his junior season.

He’ll have one more year to show Missouri what he can do as jumps from one power conference team to another.

That he didn’t follow White will certainly raise questions as to why he chose to leave the Nebraska football team. Of course, it’s possible that he intended to go to Florida State when eh entered the portal and decided on Missouri after the fact. If there is good news here, at least the Huskers won’t have to face off against Gbayor, outside of a playoff or bowl game next year.
