While the full renovation for Nebraska football’s Memorial stadium isn’t coming until next year, there will be some changes to the look of the field during the 2025 season.

Huskers AD Troy Dannen recently gave a series of interviews, mostly meant to defend his position when canceling the home and home against the Tennessee Volunteers. however, in one recent podcast veered into discussion about the Memorial Stadium field and what the end zones will look like.

Nebraska football will have new look Tom Osborne Field

There has been talk since Dannen unveiled red end zones for the Nebraska football practice field that they should do the same with the Huskers’ actual stadium. As it turns out that is indeed the plan.

Dannen said the field will look quite a bit different beyond the red end zones. And he made it clear that at least part of this new look is an intimidation factor he doesn’t believe the Cornhuskers have taken advantage of before now.

Nebraska football embracing the color red all over

“The team boxes will be black,” Dannen said on the Husker Online Podcast “And there will be a little more flare on the sides. The color scheme, the aesthetic of the turf, and the fact that it's one solid color and not variances of green. That is what the turf will look like at the stadium this fall.”

“We underutilized red a lot and I don't understand it,” Dannen added. “We don't light the stadium up from the outside and we should light it red every night. Red is an intimidating color and we should use it a lot more than we use it…Having those red end zones and I think it's a strong color. When we put the black letters in the end zone, I think it's a strong look.”

Of course, these changes are just the first phase. There is also going to be some changes coming to the seating in the stadium and the Nebraska football team is looking to play on natural grass starting in 2026. That will be a switch from artificial turf, which has been in place since the 1970s.
