The Nebraska football team has had a weird run, with its opponents losing some of their best players to injury. Most of those players have been quarterbacks, to the point that none of the Huskers’ remaining five opponents will have a quarterback starting against NU who also started the season as QB1.
Earlier this week, Iowa suffered a very special loss. While the Hawkeyes have had quarterback problems all year and could have more than one signal caller play in the Black Friday game against Nebraska, it’s a bigger deal who won’t be in the backfield for Kirk Ferentz’s team.
Star running back Kamari Moulton was ruled out for the rest of the season on Tuesday afternoon. His absence in the season finale against Nebraska could be a blow for a team that’s struggled to find much of an offense outside the running game.
Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz announced Tuesday that Moulton will miss the rest of the season with an upper-body injury. The Big Ten’s second-leading rusher left last week’s loss at Minnesota in the second quarter and did not return.

“Unfortunately, he’s going to be done,” Ferentz said. “We’ll look forward to getting him back here, but he’s got some rehab to go through.”
Moulton was averaging 90.2 yards per game with four touchdowns in his fourth season with the Hawkeyes. He ran for a career-high 208 yards and two TDs in a 41-24 win at Washington on October 9.
Xavier Williams will start for Moulton when the Hawkeyes host No. 25 Wisconsin on Saturday. Williams has 187 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns this season, but almost all of it (151 yards, 3 TDs) came on just six carries in a blowout win over Northern Iowa. Outside of that game, he’s had just 36 yards on 19 carries.
While the Nebraska football team is on a bit of a slide, it started the year 5-0 and lost to defending national champion Indiana by just three points. They had the Hoosiers on the ropes early in the fourth quarter when Anthony Colandrea scored on a long touchdown run to give the Huskers a 17-6 lead. Curt Cignetti’s crew eventually rallied with two long touchdown passes to win, 20-17.
NU head coach Matt Rhule has said he feels his team is just a play or two away from taking the next step in their development. Even without Kamari Moulton, beating Iowa on Black Friday would certainly be a big step in that direction. The Huskers have beaten the Hawkeyes just once since 2015.
