When Jaylen Lloyd departed the Nebraska football team over the winter, there was at least some concern that the Huskers had lost a valuable weapon in their passing game. As it turned out, the additions of Dane Key and Nyziah Hunter have been impressive. And yet, one has to wonder if, with Lloyd back in the portal, NU might look to bring him back to Lincoln.

When Lloyd left the Huskers, he decided to try his hand with the Big 12 and Oklahoma State. The reasoning made sense. There have been times when the Cowboys were one of the most impressive offenses in the country. Those days are long over. Things are so bad in Stillwater that head coach Mike Gundy was fired just a few weeks into the season.

Former Nebraska wideout Jaylen Lloyd enters transfer portal again

His firing made it possible for Lloyd to enter the transfer portal long before it officially opens later this winter. He has a better chance to look at the situations in a ton of different programs. In that regard, the former Nebraska wideout has a leg up on the competition.

The flip side of that is that Lloyd won't have much of a body of work to show off to prospective teams. He doesn't have a catch for Oklahoma State this season and, in fact, has only played one snap in two games. One has to wonder what's going on with Lloyd that he can't get on the field more for such a bad offense.

He entered the portal amid the realization that his role may be limited in a crowded receiver room and with new offensive dynamics at play.

In two seasons with Nebraska, Jaylen Lloyd totaled 19 catches for 492 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also showed big play ability, averaging 25.9 yards per catch.

It seems unlikely that Nebraska will make a real run at the wide receiver, even if he is now a free agent again, but it could be interesting to see where he ends up next.
