Nebraska football fans are plenty frustrated after another close loss to another ranked team. However, there's still reason for optimism following the defeat to the USC Trojans. Matt Rhule and Co. are on quite a heater on the recruiting front, and that includes impressing Antayvious "Tay" Ellis, one of the best wide receiver recruits in the 2027 class.

Ellis was in town to see the Huskers' Blackout game, and despite some struggles, the 4-star wide receiver was impressed with his potential fit in the offense. According to On3's Bryan Munson, Ellis said he could see himself "being a playmaker" for NU, should he choose to spend his college days in Lincoln.

The Nebraska football team, which impressed plenty of highly rated 2027 prospects on the weekend, made such a connection with Ellis that he told analyst Tim Vergehese that the Huskers felt like "family." WR coach Daikiel Shorts Jr. especially hit it off with the Crowley (TX) prospect.

The Huskers had more than 40 recruits in attendance for the USC game, a few Ellis has previously crossed paths with at camps, other recruiting visits and 7-on-7 tournaments. He connected with 2027 four-star cornerback Jerry Outhouse, who plays for Crowley’s cross-town rivals and some top talent from out West.

Tay Ellis' recruiting still has several battles ahead. He's getting heavily pursued by programs like Notre Dame, and in-state schools like Texas, SMU and Texas A&M.

Still, the Nebraska football team might be leading the pack and they made some serious progress towards landing a commitment from the talented wideout this weekend.
