Because he's the starting quarterback for the Nebraska football team, Dylan Raiola gets the majority of the spotlight before, during, and after games. However, the signal caller wants everyone to understand that he has a very talented supporting cast. In particular, after the Huskers win over Cincinnati, Raiola went out of his way to single out running back Emmett Johnson, who could be poised for a monster 2025 season.
Johnson split time with Dante Dowdell in 2024, but the latter moved on to Kentucky in the transfer portal this offseason. It was thought that the returning back would get the bulk of the carries, but even head coach Matt Rhule didn't think he'd get all but two carries against the Bearcats. Still, after carrying 25 times for 108 yards, Johnson drew praise from his teammates, including Raiola.
Dylan Raiola calls Emmett Johnson a 'special piece' of Nebraska’s offense
"I think Emmett sees the field at such an elite level," the Nebraska quarterback said. Raiola also noted that Johnson trusts his cuts, and even if it doesn't immediately work out, he keeps trusting until it results in a significant gain. "He's a special player and a special piece to this offense," Raiola added, emphasizing the importance of keeping him healthy throughout the season.
That doesn't mean that the team thinks Johnson had a perfect game. Offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen made it clear the Huskers' offense needs to produce more in future games.
However, Emmett Johnson has already announced his presence with authority. He'll only get better as the Nebraska football season goes on. Expect him to have a big game against Akron and Houston Baptist, while also getting more breathers to keep him fresh and healthy for the Big Ten season.
